Summer Reading List

One of the best parts of summer is that I no longer have a huge pile of required class readings to do. Three months of reading things because I want to, not because I have to, is sheer bliss.

You can see the beginnings of my summer reading list, above. I like to create a big list every summer and see how far I get by fall.

My list so far:
  • The Golden Road: Notes on my Gentrification by Caille Millner
  • Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi (this one has been on my list for a looong time)
  • Not Buying It: My Year Without Shopping by Judith Levine (and I thought a 3-month spending hiatus was a long time!)
  • Life of Pi by Yann Martel

What's on your summer reading list, and what do you think of mine?

  1. I've heard those are good! I'm just starting "Everything is Illuminated", we'll see how it goes :)

  2. I can't say that I've ever read any of those. I don't have a summer reading list really, but there are some books I want to read. I just read Jen Lancaster's first book, and now I want to read the rest. I think Sophia Kinsella is coming out with a new book this summer and want to read it. I'm sure there's more, but those are the first ones that come to mind.

  3. I liked "Life of Pi". Odd, but interesting. I read it around the same time I read "The Old Man and the Sea", so my summer was filled with stories of hardship in little boats.
I'm in the throes of school right now, but I'm planning on reading "Cranford" by Elizabeth Gaskell and "The Help" by Kathryn Stokett. I'd also like to get to some short stories by Isak Dinesen (birthday present!). I can't wait to have time to read!

  4. I've heard about "Life of Pi" and have made it an addition to my list as well! Right now, I'm reading "In Her Shoes" by Jennifer Weiner (y'know, the one made into a movie starring Cameron Diaz & Toni Collette). Next will be a shorter book called "Ellen Foster" by Kaye Gibbons and then I'm tackling "Pride & Prejudice" by Jane Austen. Can you believe I have yet to read it!?
