Virtual Zoo Tour: The Gorillas
Gorillas are probably one of the coolest animals to visit when you're at the zoo. I love going to the Columbus zoo indoor gorilla exhibit- the way it's set up, you walk into the middle of the gorilla house and the exhibit is all around the walls, so it's like you're there in the middle of them, separated only by some (very thick) glass. If you watch gorillas long enough, you start to realize that they look and act a lot like us.
The top gorilla photo is of a little guy I like to call Bubbles. He'll hang off the side of the gorilla exhibit and make faces at the people outside. If you pull a goofy face at him he'll even blow you some spit bubbles. Charming, right?
The other three photos are ones I took at the indoor exhibit because I thought it was cool how their facial expressions were so similar to ours. From the top: wistful, grumpy, and goofy. And these are only a few of the gorilla photos I've gotten over the past year.
Anybody else see the "humanness" in the photos? Got a favorite zoo animal to visit?

"All gorilla images are mine". I don't know but that made me laugh. Nice pictures :P
ReplyDeletelol B I'm very protective of my gorilla pictures ;) That and I didn't want anyone to think I snagged them off of flickr or something :-P Thanks!

I love the zoo!
ReplyDeleteI like watching the big cats like Tigers and Lions. Once I went to a zoo and we got to watch them feed the lions and tigers, they threw huge slabs of raw meat over the fence and it was brutal watching them fight over it! So cool though. I am seriously in awe of those animals, they are so beautiful and powerful!! I like to think of my own little Webster as a little tiger hehe.
Aw how fun :) how often do you go to the zoo?
ReplyDeletegracias por tu comentario, las fotos de los gorilas son excelentes.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite animals to visit are Pandas. Yes, I know most zoos don't have them. But the two main zoos I remember going to growing up were the San Diego Zoo and the Washington D.C. zoo, both of which had them.
ReplyDelete(And I just typed that thing, and am now realizing your website is called One Happy Panda. That really wasn't intentional. lol)
Amber- the big cats are always very cool because they have this awesome mix of power and grace. Unfortunately they always seem to be sleeping when I hit up the Columbus zoo.
ReplyDeletedogearedit- I probably go to the zoo 5-6 times a year depending on the weather and my schedule. My boyfriend and I have annual zoo memberships so it's free for us to go (cheapest date ever :-P)
argentinito- thank you so much!
Shoshanah- Pandas are awesome. We don't have the giant pandas in our zoo though I want to see them some day. We do have red pandas though, which are my favorite animal ever :)

ReplyDeleteI loved this! If you get the chance, watch "The Long Way Down" a motorcycle journey with Ewan McGregor and his friend Charley Boorman. They travel the length of Africa and on one occasion are within spitting distance of Rwandan silverback gorillas in the wild. Awesome!!!
